Cyprus University of technology
The Cyprus University of Technology is the second largest public university in the Republic of Cyprus. It was established by law in 2004 and in 2007 accepted its first undergraduate students. It currently has more than 2000 students and more than 120 academics spread amongst its six faculties. The University is headed by Prof. Elpida Keravnou (Rector) and Vice Rectors Prof. Andreas Anayiotos and Prof. Toula Onoufriou. Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics
The Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics (CEG) led by Prof. Diofantos G. Hadjimitsis belongs to the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, headed by Ass. Prof. Christis Chrysostomou. It seeks to develop its students within an inspiring and dynamic environment that challenges them and enables them to acquire a wide range of professional, analytical and design skills, which are necessary to make a positive and significant impact to civil infrastructure and the quality of life. The Department offers two versatile 4-year undergraduate (Bachelor) programs in Civil Engineering, and in Surveying Engineering & Geoinformatics Engineering, tailored to meet current needs of the industry. Postgraduate studies in the Department include a new taught 13-month Master of Science in Civil Engineering and Sustainable Design as well as PhD studies in various areas of Civil Engineering and Geomatics, tapping from the strong research experience and record of the Departmental academic staff. Research in the Department is undertaken in state-of the art laboratory facilities and is funded through national and European research programs (e.g. Marie Curie, FP-7, LIFE+, EUREKA, MED etc). The Department has and aims to enhance strong links with the industry and public sector, in order to provide to its students the opportunity to work on exciting projects through research and professional training. Furthermore it seeks and encourages links with international Higher Education Institutions, through the exchange of students and visits from distinguished academics, whose specialist expertise would add value in our taught and research programs. Integrated Design for Civil & Geomatics Engineers
Integrated Design for Civil & Geomatics Engineers II is part of a suit of general modules taught in the first two years of both undergraduate courses run by the Department. There are two Professional Skills modules that run in the 1st and 3rd semester respectively and two Integrated Design modules in the 2nd and 4th semester. The aim of these modules is to equip students with the necessary tools and train them to tackle problems they will face in their subsequent studies and professional lives, as well as learn how to work in big teams and communicating information, all while working under strict deadlilnes. The broad nature of these modules allows the development of scenario-based design exercises, where students are free to explore different solutions, always focussing on principles and methodology, under the supervision of our staff and visiting professionals. Some of the visual work done during these modules is presented in the Youtube Channel CIVENGatCUT. There you can see this cohort's Integrated Design for Civil and Geomatics Engineers I Major Project from 2013.
