Dr Stelios (Stylianos) Yiatros
Stelios is a Lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering & Geomatics at CUT and specialises in the area of Nonlinear Structural Mechanics and Biomimetic Applications in Engineering Design. He studied Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London and subsequently continued his studies in the same university, obtaining a PhD in Nonlinear Structural Mechanics in 2010. Before joining CUT at the end of 2011, he worked at Brunel University London as Lecturer in Structural Design. Stelios is also the Co-founder of Chrysalis LEAP, the first business accelerator for Cleantech ideas in Cyprus. He is the module leader for Integrated Design modules (I & II) as well as Professional skills I &II. When it comes to teaching, he believes in exercising Dan Pink's three principles for motivation: Mastery, Autonomy and Purpose, thus allowing students to build up their own knowledge base and skills, while working methodically on interesting projects. He has set the Brief for this project and coordinated a team of volunteers from CUT, the Industry and Business that supported the student Groups during the project.
